Description

This Design and Construct project comprised the refurbishment and AS1428.1 compliance upgrade of an existing Brisbane City Council hall located in Newmarket.

A key component of the project was the design and construction of air conditioning and energy recovery ventilation systems (to supply pre-conditioned outdoor air to the main hall air conditioned space) to the Hall and kitchens, along with new mechanical ventilation to the amenities.  These works were successfully completed by our proposed mechanical subcontractor for project – JGE Air.

In order to minimise high level maintenance works, all condensers were located in sub-floor areas and an innovative solution was developed to integrate the energy recovery ventilation systems into existing heritage seating in the hall, again ensuring plant was mounted at low level and mitigating the visual amenity of the heritage building.

Completed building works included extensive structural repair work and tiedown improvements; construction of new PWD, ambulant, male and female amenities; new kitchen and kitchenette, fitout of the chair store, bookshop and security store; widening doorways; painting; installation of a roof safety system; external works included provision of compliant access pathways and construction of  a new PWD parking bay parking bays and accessible ramp to meet AS1428.1.

The Blackwood Projects design team successfully met the client’s brief and achieved a high level of finish within the contract period.
